ITT Series Round 1 – Waurn Ponds Year 4

Today I was 1.7kg lighter than last year. My TSB was -10, last year it was +6. It was looking shaky for a PB. During my warm-up, I swapped out my deep dish front for a not so deep dish as coming down the hill was scary with the wind that was present. The best thing about the same course each year, is one can judge form and race themselves.

The Plan

Exactly the same as in 2016 – get in a lap as recon/warm-up, ride a protocol warm-up on the mag trainer and aim for 11:20 a lap and at the very least, PB. Continue reading

Round 1 of the Vic TT Series – Waurn Ponds

The Plan

Get in a lap as recon/warmup, ride a protocol warmup on the mag trainer and aim for 11:20 a lap. Today I was 600g heavier than last year.

The Race

Things went to plan at the start.  I kept it above the required speed (the watts were a little high) and I stayed aero all the way to the top.  Coming down, I needed to pass a female rider passing another rider while I had another rider coming towards me up the hill.  This cost me a few seconds. Waurn Ponds ITT. Even D Was faster!

Today’s race was a brilliant example of what the Tour of East Gippsland prologue could have been.  Rather than running an insulting 8km ITT, at the very least, a 2x out and back ITT should have been run.  If it had been, I’d have considered gone along.  If it had been 3x, I definitely would have raced, even with the pricey entry fee and being a starving unemployed scientist back then.
