The Plan
Try to ride 6:30 per lap. This would be as fast as I rode the race last time over a shorter distance way back when we last got a gig on the Phillip Island Race Race in 2013. I’ve not got an easily portable mag trainer at present so the warmup for this race was pretty much no warmup. I rode circles in the car park and managed three muscle activation effort before heading for the line.
The Race 22.22kms – 40.1kph
My bunny did not show up and the guy behind me consistently rides faster than Big Jim who is a B grader. Hooray.
Based on the lap times, it took me the first lap to warm up. After that, I was a little slower than my ride of five years ago. Climbing the hill on the course on lap 4, the rider who started a minute behind me over took me. I was passed by nobody else. I passed about 2 two or three riders from my grade.
Summary
Annoying that clear B graders took out the podium. Resigned that the timing stuffed up. No good on the hill, so after getting to 77kgs a few weeks ago I am back to 81. Not good. Not good at all.
Given the extra lap, the slightly slower time could be seen as acceptable. Given I’m supposedly training properly and the Masters States are next weekend followed by the Masters National the week after, hmmmm.
