In fine Australia Day tradition I spent the day in bed with a hangover (or a migraine, I’m not sure which). At about 5, I was better so I headed over to DISC to test my legs in C grade. The State Masters champs are in three weeks, so it would be a good idea to see if I’m any good. Continue reading

Not get dropped.
A boring report today. I spent much of the race last (or within the last 5 riders). I was not trying to hang on so much. After the back straight on lap one, I was almost out the back, but that was it for almost being dropped. Mentally, I could have pulled the pin a few times, but I was determined not to be a DNF. Here it shows that if you are willing to suffer just that little but longer, you’ll probably be fine.
When I tried to move up, I got maybe top 15 and then surges would see me drift to the back again. The biggest problem today was lack of confidence cornering. The uphill section along the back was fine. The home strait was fine. The bends after the home run, no probs.
With two laps to go, we let C grade have their sprint as things got a bit crowded entering the highway side bends at this time.
The last four laps saw a slowing of pace and before the final bends, the bunch was spread across the whole road. I went hard in the sprint to test the legs.
Based on my power readings, I should have felt better. Looking at the quadrant analysis, more high cadence than normal.
According to my power meter, I’m 47/53 left vs right leg. A sore left glute may be contributing to that (not that it’s consciously sore during races).
Time to lounge about watching the aussie champs on the tele….

Wait for the winning break and go with it.
I took off at the start and egged on by Justin D, we got a two-man break that fell apart by the bottom straight and saw me caught by the end of it. Not a good plan to go hard with no warmup.
I spent all but 2 laps TTing the race. At one point, 2 other riders were caught by me and we did some turns.
400W into a headwind to just tip it over 26kph. Crazy! At least I managed to ride tempo.
