Race ended with favorite type of win

The Plan

With a really bad test TT yesterday, it was a case of see how things go.  If I had legs, I’d chase but not attack.

The Race

I started mid field then hit the front along the back.  Back about 4th wheel by the S/F line as two or three riders came over me just before the bend.

Over the race, I spent a lot of time on the front and when moves went I would let them go until they had about 50m to 100m on me then TT back onto the riders out front.  Normally this was a lone rider in the first half.  In the second half, groups of three to four tended to ride off the front a little.

Heading up the hill at the end of lap nine, a rider took off and I chased hard.  When I bridged, there was a counter move which saw a lone rider take off.  Soon after a groupd of three formed, eventually making the lead group into five.  I had four being me and chased for a litle over a lap and a half and suffered the entire time.  The pace then dropped off.

Some late attacks identified about four of us with any legs left.  Rider 100, 109 and 105 (I think) – they also appeared to be the ones who were the strongest/attackeeist (sic) as well, though during the race, there may have been one or two others who had a bash.

Into the last lap I was on the front and stayed there, taking it easy riding at between 80W and 170W.  Nobody wanted to come to the front.  I was expecting an attack before the bend out of the back stright.  It never came.  About 100m along the “climb” I hit the gas and stayed in the lead heading into the final corner, which I took nicely.  Up to the line, I could see about two riders a few lengths back.  Charter Mason (MC) appeared to be the biggest threat, however, in the last 60ish meters, he did not make up any ground.  1st for me and a nice win given the work I did.  A grade next year?

Summary:

The race went to plan.  I was a little suprised no one came over me in the last lap.

ABOC Round 3

The Plan

Have fun and experiment with the sprints.

The Race

Warnimg up, I’d get a headache whenever I sprinted.  This did not occur when racing.

For the flying 200m, I rode a 101.8 – 49×13 and had no feeling of power and was a bit slow in the 100m before the hwy side corner.  This resulted in a13.869 (51.914kph) which is my 5th fastest outdoor time.
Heat 1:
Racing an unknown quantity.  She led.  We played tactical as a little over a lap to go I feigned a break and she hit the gas.   I got around her in the club room corner and rode away from there.
Heat 2:
Very tactical race where Nicole Holt lead.  She kept trying to to force me to the front/break by going high.  She increased the pace half way up the back straight on the final lap and I came around her on the final corner and I made sure I kept going hard until the line.
Heat 3:
This time I led and played tactics.  I was trying to force my oponent, Damien  to the front.  Coming around the final corner of lap 1, I’d created a gap and was going to hit the gas.  Damine had same idea so I let him take the lead and drafted him until the final corner where I slowly pulled around and hit the lead.  I was not feeling confidant of the win until entering the home straight. Three from three.  Being in C grade helps.
Final for gold:
Here I led Sam Gallager.  I tried to force him to front with no success.  On 2nd bend, I slowly wound it up and then jumped.  I stayed ahead for rest of race so a good day’s racing on track.  Not too warm as set up in shade and the minimal breeze was cooling.

Summary:

Pleasing that I won everything, but given I was in C, not as pleasing as if had been in B

Strong Called off Crit

The Plan

See if could get a break way, otherwise peg everything and take off on the last lap.

The Race

A strong race from me where I would lead, chase the breaks and counter any moves.  Race was called off due to a crash in C grade and a downed rider.  Shame.

I did not launch any attacks myself, though I did a fair bit of pace setting.  Riders would attack predicatably up the “hill”, around the first corner or entering the corners along the back where the road tends upwards.

The hardest chasing I did was between the start finish line and down to the back striaght.  Often I’d be stuffed by this point though the pace was not hard enough to kill me off and my reocvery was good.  When I would lead along the back, my power output was around 170W.  This made it easy to coutner ther attacks up the hill.  Other riders commented it was impressive I could set the pace and then go with the moves.   That’s an advantage of racing to the numbers.  At least when I do it, it livens things up and is not boring tempo, tempo, tempo.

At one point we got a bit mixed up with A grade and we were not sure if a B grader was out in front of A.  I chased for three laps and then A grade sped up and appeared to absorb the rider so I guess he was A grade.

On the race’s  second last lap, a downed C grader caused the race to be neutralised.  I was on the front and soft pedalling, taking it easy.  Apparently this was too fast for some as the amount of whinging from the pack was a bit nuts.  I rode even slower.  Coming over the line, the commisare told us to race so we did.  Some riders whigned at this.  The next lap was a short one and the race was called off.

Summary:

With the exception of things eading early, a good, solid race played tactically.

Overheating by end of Race

The Plan

To stay with the bunch of the hills and get away in the final 2-3k’s of the race.

The Race

I started the race ok, but appear to have bonked or blow up going up the hill on lap three due to massive stitch developing in right ribs and moving to lower abs.  This saw me suffer for the next three laps while I simultaneously tried to ease up, while chase down the bunch which had gotten away by about 300m.  I managed to catch and then took it easy until I’d pretty much recovered.
